Psychiatric medication management in Indiana

Medication is one option among several — and it works best with follow-up.

How medication decisions get made

Medication is one of several treatment options available for certain mental health conditions. If you are receiving psychiatric care, your psychiatric provider will discuss the potential benefits, risks and alternatives with you when medication is being considered.

You are part of that decision. Nothing is prescribed at you.

Ongoing follow-up

Follow-up appointments are shorter than the initial evaluation and focus on how things are going: response, side effects, dosing and anything that has changed. Frequency depends on your needs and treatment plan.

Stopping or changing medication

Please talk to your prescriber first. Do not stop or change a prescribed medication without first discussing it with your prescribing clinician. Some medications may need to be reduced gradually, and suddenly stopping certain medications can cause withdrawal symptoms or a return of symptoms.

Controlled substances

Certain controlled medications may require additional monitoring or an in-person visit depending on the medication, your individual circumstances, clinical considerations and applicable prescribing requirements. Your psychiatric provider will discuss any requirements that apply to your treatment.

Long-acting injectables (LAIs) are not offered at this time.
